Problem: “I like to sit in a comfortable chair when I am reading, watching television, or spending time with family. However, I am having trouble getting out of the chair easily. What options are available?”
Solution: We carry an ever-expanding lineup of Lift Chairs, which are designed to assist you when standing up. They have a mechanism which helps lift you into a standing position, and many of them also recline or even lay flat into a sleeper position. These chairs are highly customizable with options and are all custom-made to order, so you can easily create a chair that is perfect for you.
Problem: “I am needing a special size/thickness mattress. Do you have something that could help?”
Solution: Yes! We can make just about any size mattress, ranging from odd sizes to fit sleeper sofas, recreational vehicles, and more. We can also make different thicknesses, shapes, and even adjust the content of the mattress, all in an effort to make a mattress that is perfect for you! Contact us with more information on what you are seeking, and we will let you know availability.
The National Sleep Research Project in Australia compiled a list of ten facts about sleep that you may or may not know. We found the list interesting and felt like sharing.
- The record for the longest period of time without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech, and lapses in memory and concentration.
- If it takes you less than five minutes to fall asleep at night, you’re sleep-deprived. The ideal time for falling asleep is 10-15 minutes, which means you’re tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy during the day.
- A new baby typically results in 400-750 hours of lost sleep for parents in the first year.
- Elephants sleep standing up during non-REM sleep, but lie down for REM sleep. (Rapid Eye Movement sleep is the stage in which dreams generally occur.)
- REM sleep may help developing brains mature. Premature babies have 75% REM sleep – 10% more than full-term babies.
- After five nights of partial sleep deprivation, three drinks will have the same effect on your body as six would when you’ve slept enough.
- Humans sleep an average of about three hours less than other primates such as chimps, rhesus monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and baboons, all of which sleep for 10 hours.
- Feeling tired can feel normal within a relatively short period of time. People deliberately deprived of sleep for research initially noticed the significant effects on their alertness, mood, and physical performance, but the awareness dropped off after the first few days.
- Snoring occurs only in Non-REM sleep.
- Teenagers need as much sleep as small children (about 10 hours). For the average adult, aged 25-55, eight hours is generally considered optimal.
